Our story begins long before the roastery itself.
During the 1950s and 60s, my father spent part of his childhood in South Georgia during the Norwegian whaling era. Even in one of the most remote places on Earth, the Norwegians roasted their own coffee.
He still talks about walking past the small roastery and the unmistakable smell of freshly roasted coffee drifting through the settlement.
Years later, that story became the inspiration behind Falklands Coffee Roasters.
If coffee could be roasted in South Georgia, why not in the Falkland Islands?
What started as a fascination with speciality coffee quickly became an obsession with understanding flavour, roasting and the remarkable journey coffee takes from farm to cup.
Today, Falklands Coffee Roasters combines a passion for great coffee, responsible sourcing and the Falkland Islands themselves — creating something genuinely local while supporting coffee-growing communities around the world.

Mum has been involved from the very beginning and is a huge part of the work that goes on behind the scenes. From helping with the day-to-day running of the business to packaging, organising, supporting and generally being there whenever something needs doing, Fran has become an essential part of the team.
She has also taken to roasting remarkably well and has gone from helping out to becoming a pretty excellent roaster in her own right!

Dad is one of the people behind the original inspiration for Falklands Coffee Roasters.
His childhood memories of South Georgia, including the smell of coffee being roasted during the Norwegian whaling era, helped plant the seed for the idea that eventually became Falklands Coffee Roasters. The thought was simple: if coffee roasting could happen there, why couldn’t we do it here?
Fast forward to today and Dad has gone from inspiring the idea to becoming a very good roaster himself. He has been involved in an enormous amount of the work behind the scenes and is always ready to get stuck in, whether that means roasting, packing, moving things around or helping solve whatever problem has appeared that day.
